Is Your Air Conditioner Blowing Hot Air? Here’s Why.

Posted on August 30th, 2020 by Bill Stuhr

Many people contact us for emergency AC repair near Palatine after discovering that their unit is supplying their home with hot air. Considering that this is exactly the opposite of what your AC should be doing, it can be quite alarming and confusing. Today, we’ll cover some of the common reasons why your unit may be having this issue.

1. The settings are incorrect

The issue may be as simple as improper settings on your thermostat. In some cases, owners are concerned only to find that their finger slipped the last time they adjusted the dial. If you live with small children, it’s possible that curious kids have made changes of their own.

2. Airflow is being blocked

In order for your air conditioner to work properly, air must be able to flow through the system freely. A clogged air filter can cause the unit’s compressor to seize up, preventing air from being cooled and expelled as it should be. Be sure to check that the supplies and returns are clear as well, as this can also contribute to the issue.

3. The system is not getting enough power

In a split system, both parts need to receive adequate electricity in order for a cooling effect to take place. Make sure that both units are running; if either is failing, check the power source for each system. If the power is on, or the breaker will not stay on, please reach out for professional service.
